SERIAN ADVENTURE CAVING (8 Hours)
Tour Code: KSC1  
Duration: 8 hours  
The limestone hills surrounding Kuching offer a fine selection of caves that will whet the appetite of the novice caver as well as satisfy the more experienced cavers. Located about an hour’s drive from Kuching, the cave features interesting stalactite and stalagmite formations as well as some cave paintings. The duration of the caving will be approximately two to three hours. There will also be an opportunity to see rural Sarawak life. (L)

 
ULU AI JUNGLE CAMP (4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS)

Duration: 4 days / 3 nights  
Day 1: Kuching/Ulu Ai - Nanga Sumpa Lodge
Depart by air-conditioned van for the Batang Ai reservoir (4-5 hours). Journey through rural Sarawak, passing pepper gardens, cocoa and rubber plantation. En route, a few stops will be made. Visit the colorful native market in Serian town where a variety of jungle produce including edible ferns, bamboo shoots and unusual tropical fruit. Visit a pepper garden and stop by to view wild orchids and several species of pitcher plants. Lunch en route. Upon arrival at the Batang Ai reservoir, proceed by longboat (1-2 hours) upriver to Nanga Sumpa. Settle in at Borneo Adventure’s jungle lodge. After dinner proceed to the longhouse across river. Relax on the ruai (common verandah) and spend time with the Iban people. Interact with the community and learn their culture and enjoy some local rice wine with them. Overnight at the lodge. (L,D)

Day 2: Ulu Ai - Jungle Lodge
Following breakfast, hike the jungle trails along the river. Our destination is the scenic Enseluai Waterfall. Option to visit a second Iban longhouse at Nanga Jambu. Time to relax, swim, explore the rainforest and have lunch or try fishing Iban-style. Then, proceed to the jungle lodge. You can help the guides by gathering jungle produce like bamboo shoots or edible ferns for the evening meal. Orang utan occasionally are seen (at dusk or at dawn) in this area. Overnight in the jungle shelter. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Ulu Ai - Nanga Sumpa lodge
In the morning, hike the beautiful rainforest in search of wildlife. Wildlife found in the area could include orangutans, pig-tailed macaques, hornbills and other variety of birds. There will be opportunities for swimming and relaxing before returning down river to the lodge. Dinner is served in the lodge with local delicacies to enhance the meal. Visit the longhouse in the evening. Woven blankets and handicrafts are available for display upon request and may be purchased directly from the longhouse people. (B,L,D)

Note: Leeches are found in this area. Insect repellent is effective against leeches.

Day 4: Ulu Ai - Kuching
Following breakfast, depart down river by longboat, then overland. Lunch en route. Proceed to Kuching and check in or transfer to the airport for departure. (B,L)

Follow one of the rainforest trails in the area to look for orangutans and other wildlife like the pig-tailed macaque, hornbills and other variety of birds. While the orangutans are only occasionally seen, their nests and feeding area can be observed. Have a picnic lunch on the trail before returning to the shelter. There will be time for swimming and relaxing. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Nanga Sumpa
Morning trek in the forest, swim or relax before returning down river to the lodge. In the afternoon, take the chance to explore the surrounding area. Dinner is served in the lodge with local delicacies to enhance the meal. Visit the longhouse in the evening. Woven blankets and handicrafts are available for display upon request and may be purchased directly from the longhouse people. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Departure
Following breakfast, depart down river by longboat, then overland. Lunch en route. Proceed to Kuching and transfer to the hotel. Check in or transfer to the airport for departure. (B,L)


 
NANGA JELIA JUNGLE CAMP / NANGA SUMPA LONGHOUSE (3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS)

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights  
Day 1: Kuching to Nanga Jelia
Depart by air-conditioned van for Batang Ai reservoir (4½ hours). Journey through rural Sarawak, passing pepper gardens, cocoa and rubber plantation. En-route, a few stops will be made. Visit the colorful native market in Serian town where a variety of jungle produce such as edible ferns, bamboo shoots and unusual tropical fruit are on display. Visit a pepper garden and stop by to view wild orchids and several species of pitcher plants. Lunch is taken en route. Upon arrival at the Batang Ai reservoir, transfer onto a longboat for a 1-hour boat ride to Nanga Jelia, your trekking starting point. Hike about 20 minutes to the jungle camp. Following your arrival there will be time for relaxing and swimming. After dinner, join your guide for a jungle walk. Wildlife that may be spotted include the shy civet cat as well as the more common large toads, frogs and tortoises found in the nearby stream. Overnight at the jungle camp. (L,D)

Day 2: Nanga Jelia to Nanga Sumpa
Following breakfast, hike on one of the rainforest trails in the area to look for orang utan and other wildlife such as the pig-tailed macaque, hornbills and other variety of birds. You may learn from your guide and porters on how to survive in the jungle learning skills such as identifying the edible ferns, fruits and vegetation available in the jungle. Upon arrival at the camp, pack your belongings and hike to the boat jetty then proceed by longboat to Nanga Sumpa. Settle in at Borneo Adventure’s jungle lodge. After dinner proceed to the longhouse across the river. Relax on the Ruai (common veranda) and spend time with the Iban people. Learn about their culture and enjoy some local rice wine. Day 3: Longhouse to Kuching

ULU SKRANG (3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS)

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights  
Day 1: Kuching - Pais - Jambu Longhouse
Depart early morning for the majestic and historic Skrang River. The Skrang River has seen many fights between the local Iban and the White Rajahs. The Second Rajah, Sir Charles Brookes spent his formative years along this river and there are still tales told of his exploits. The 4 to 5 hour journey from Kuching passes the market town of Serian and along the way you will pass by ample plantations of rubber, cocoa, and gardens of pepper and tropical fruit. At Pais jetty, transfer on to one of the traditional built longboats for a 2-hour journey to the interior of the Skrang River. Upon arrival at Jambu longhouse, you will be guest of the village chief. In the evening, a jungle repast followed by entertainment, Iban style. Overnight in the longhouse. (L,D)

Day 2: Jambu - Darai
After breakfast, take the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and proceed downriver and take in about an hour’s trek to Darai longhouse. Take the opportunity to slake off the tropical heat in one of the cool mountain streams and to interact with the Iban people. In the evening, enjoy the hospitality of the denizens at Darai. Overnight in the longhouse. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Darai - Kuching
After breakfast, say farewell to your host as we depart for Kuching. Return to Kuching by late afternoon. (B,L)
