Discovering Sabah in depth
Borneo, the world’s third largest island offer an astonishing diversity of landscapes and people, as well as richly varied plant and animal life, yet surprisingly little known about the treasures of this Borneo state. Borneo Island comprise of 3 Country namely Kalimantan (Indonesia), Brunei and Sabah & Sarawak (Malaysia). Sabah, Malaysia at the northern tip of Borneo, offers astonishing variety within its relatively small size. Its landscapes range from long white sandy beaches to magnificent rain forests. Offering world class scuba diving sites including Sipadan Island and Layang Layang atoll to Mount Kinabalu towering at 4,095 meters highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. Sabah’s forest are among the most richly varied rain forest in the world with new species of plants still being discover every year, Danum Valley & Maliau Basin devoted solely to conservation and research, although a certain amount of eco-tourism is expected to be permitted within the reserve. The rain forest also homes to the wildlife as such the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary are a home for Orang Utan rehabitation center where they train the orphans Orang Utan to go back to forest. The floodplain of lower Kinabatangan is a biodiversity hotspot rich in mammal and birds life. Proboscis Monkey, Wild Orang Utan, Asian Elephants, Estuarine Crocodiles, Wild Cats and Hornbill are the most extraordinary species to inhabit the lower reaches of the wetland. Sabah’s people come from so many different ethnic groups. Most of them still follow the traditional lifestyles living in a thatched longhouses or a split-bamboo hut clinging to a mountainside.
